Community Outreach

Community outreach is very important to me. It is my way of giving back to the communities that have provided me with immense support that shaped who I am today. Most community outreach activities that I do encompass being a mentor or raising awareness in STEM via school workshops or talks. Below are some of the activities I am or have been involved in.

Smithies Connect Mentor: 2022-

I currently serve as a mentor for Smith College undergraduates and looking forward to fruitful discussions.

I was selected as a Geoscience Ambassador for 2019-2020 academic year, an HHMI-funded outreach program led by Dr. Julia Clarke that aims to increase diversity within the Geosciences. As an ambassador, I plan to do outreach with middle to high school kids within Austin’s stuttering community as well as in New York City. My goal is to inspire the next generation of scientists, and increase public awareness about STEM and the Geosciences.

GeoFORCE Texas: 2017-2019

GeoFORCE is a program that serves middle and high school students, and aims to increase diversity of the Geosciences. I serve as a GeoFORCE mentor for undergraduate students who are alums of the GeoFORCE program. As a mentor I help students navigate through the complexities of college, and work towards concrete goals each year. I also worked as an Educational Coach for the Houston and SW Texas 12th grade groups during Summer 2017.

Scientist-in-Resident (SciRes): 2017-2018

As a Scientist-in-Residence, I worked with a 5th grade classroom at Cook Elementary School every other week with lesson plans, set-up, and mini “Updates from the Lab.” My final activity for the school year was a mini model showing students how to core and what you see when you core a lake.
